A voice is recorded for use off-screen in a voice over production technique. Voice over can be utilised for telephone services and other informational services in addition to movies and television, where it is frequently used as a reference.

You will typically (and possibly even formally) perceive it as “voice over,” therefore the question of whether it is “voiceover” or “voice over” is moot. So always make sure there is a gap between the two words, just to be safe.

For the sake of brevity, we will refer to voice over in this article as “VO,” the commonly used two-letter abbreviation.
